“The runway at 3.1 Phillip Lim today was covered in sand and strewn with petals, setting the scene for what could have been a deserted beach at dusk. Lim has been looking toward his Los Angeles roots for inspiration recently, and the latest collection was awash with an easy, SoCal mood. Lim circled back to an age of innocence long before his time for inspiration, citing Victorian bathing suits as a starting point. The thigh-grazing body suits and short-shorts read more early ’90s than turn-of-the-century, though, and along with slinky knit dresses and slouchy drawstring pants, they had a sexy urban surfer feeling.“
